Catechetical & Catholicism Certificates

Catechetical Certificate

Whole person formation for your mission in Christ

The Catholic faith is inexhaustibly rich. Jesus draws us into the adventure of catechesis, the searching of His mystery, to fill us with joy and to enable us to share this joy with all people. The Church exists in order to evangelize. Catechesis is not mere instruction, because Christian truth is not mere information. Christian truth is a Person: Jesus, the Word of God, Who became man for our sake. Thus, "the definitive aim of catechesis is to bring people...into communion, into intimacy, with Jesus Christ."

About the Program
  • The two Basic Certificates offered by the Theological Institute for the New Evangelization out of Saint John's Seminary (SJS) provide a full experience of the truth of Christ.
  • Either the Catechetical Certificate or the Catholicism Certificate provide you with the formation you need to enter more deeply into the truth of Christ.
  • The Catechetical Certificate prepares you to be a better teacher of the faith. The successful completion of the Catechetical Certificate will lead to certification recognized by the Diocese of Portland.
  • The Catholicism Certificate gives you the opportunity to dive deeper into the truths of the faith.
  • Both Basic Certificates meet at the same time, with different small-group experiences.
  • Enrichment (Skills) workshops are required for both certificates.
  • The program is directed by Drs. David and Angela Franks from St. John's Seminary.
  • A person receiving the Certificate is acknowledged to have a solid foundation in the faith and some important catechetical skills.
  • Parishes can trust in the systematic and organic formation provided in this program.
  • Learning will be supported by a small-group community experience.
